THE COMPUTER SYSTEM

A computer system is one that is able to take a set of inputs, process them and create a set of outputs. This is done by a combination of hardware and software.

The computer system has one or more inputs to provide data. This data is then processed in some way. The outcome of the processing is sent to an output or it may be stored until some event happens to cause it to be output.

Components of Computer System

There are three components of computer system, which are

  • Hardware
  • Software and
  • Peopleware

(i) Hardware: Computer hardware is the collection of physical parts of a computer system. This includes the computer case, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. It also includes all the parts inside the computer case such as the hard disk drive, motherboard, video card, and many others.

computer hardware is what you can physically touch.

(ii) Software: software is a general term for the various kinds of programs used to operate computers and related devices. Software is often divided into application software (programs that do work users are directly interested in) and system software (which includes operating systems and any program that supports application software)

(III) Peopleware: peopleware refers to the the role people play in technology and the development of hardware or software. It can include various aspects of the process such as human interaction, programming productivity, teamwork, and other factors.
