ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

POLLUTION  Definition: Pollution is defined as the release of toxic or harmful substances into the environment by their natural forces or man and other animals to an extent that causes biological damage to man and his resources. In other words, pollution is the release of harmful substances into the environment, i.e., water, air and land in quantities or to the level that are harmful to man, animals and plants. The harmful substances that cause pollution in the environment are called pollutants. There are four main types of pollution. These are (a)Air pollution  (b)Noise pollution  (c) Land pollution  (d) Water pollution   The major air pollutants, their sources, harmful effects and their control   Air Pollutants Sources Effects Carbon monoxide   Burning of fuel in cars other combustion engines and some industrial processes It causes suffocation because it combine with haemoglobin and reduces its ability to carry oxygen which results in… Read More »ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Air and Noise Pollution

AIR POLLUTION Air pollution is when unwanted chemicals, gasses, and particles enter the air and the atmosphere causing harm to animals and damaging the natural cycles of the Earth. Various Causes of Air pollution The burning of fossil fuels Sulfur dioxide emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and other factory combustibles are one the major cause of air pollution. Pollution emitting from vehicles including trucks, jeeps, cars, trains, airplanes cause an immense amount of pollution. We rely on them to fulfill our daily basic needs of transportation. Agricultural activities Exhaust from factories and industries Mining operations Indoor air pollution   See also Environmental Health High and long jump Classes of food   Ways of preventing Air Pollution Use public mode of transportation Encourage people to use more and more public modes of transportation to reduce pollution. Also, try to make use of carpooling. If you and… Read More »Air and Noise Pollution

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Environmental Pollution is the release of contaminated and harmful substances and materials into the surroundings which affect living things negatively. Pollution occurs to air, water and land. Pollution is the contamination of fresh and pure air, land and water with impurities. It is the release of unwanted substances into the surrounding.   Pollution is undesirable state of the natural environment being contaminated with harmful substances as a consequence of human activities. This is also the addition of substances or forms of energy to the environment at a rate faster than the environment can accomodate.   Types of Pollution Air pollution Water pollution Land pollution Noise pollution   Others include Visual pollution Thermal pollution Radioactive pollution   Air Pollution – This is the release of harmful and unwanted substance into the air. It is the addition of pollutants into the atmosphere. Water Pollution – This is the contamination of  water bodies… Read More »ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
