AN INPUT DEVICE
This is a device which is used to enter data into the computer system. All input devices are collectively called input unit (i.e. input unit of the computer hard ware is made of input devices).
EXAMPLES OF INPUT DEVICES
- Mouse Barcode reader
- Keyboard Numeric key pad
- Light pen Digital camera
- Joy stick Microphone
- Touch pad Scanner
- Game pad Graphic tablet etc.
INSTRUCTIONS AND SELECTIONS: Joystick, Mouse, Light Pen, Trackball, Gamepad, etc.
SOUNDS: Microphone, Phone Mouth piece, etc.
SECURED CODES: Barcode, reader, Optimal Mark Recognition(OMR), etc.
Every input device has a specific type of data it can enter to the computer system. Below are the types of data each input device can be used to enter;
- Text and Numbers: Keyboard, Numeric Keypads, etc.
- Picture and Videos: Scanner, Digital Camera, Webcam, etc.
EVALUATION:
- Define the term input device.
- List five examples of input devices and the state the type of data they can enter.
ASSIGNMENT:
Gather yourself in small groups and construct any of the input devices and describe its function in a complete computer system.
